Rene Lalique is Red Hot! R. Lalique Hirondelles Vase Sets Record Lalique Colored Vase Auction Price

November 28th, 9 (that’s nine) phone bidders from the U.S. and several countries around the world, as well as several different bidders that made the trip to the Rhoads’ auction venue in Spring City Pennsylvania (many of whom volunteered “I saw it on RLalique.com”, the rest must have just been tight lipped), competed to take the vase to a hammer price of $115,000, which this writer believes is a record hammer price for any R. Lalique Colored Glass production vase at auction anywhere in the world. All-in, with the modest 15% buyer’s premium, the total cost to the winning bidder before any sales tax, was $132,250!

For the great red vase, the auction house reported that there were several bidders still in the bidding at $100,000, and several others just below that. A stunning display of the depth of interest in great R. Lalique colored glass vases from places all around the globe. Not only did the vase set a sales record, but also the Rhoads’ have a heck of an up to date list of serious R. Lalique buyers for anyone looking to

In the audience at the auction were two of the heirs to the Estate of Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Baker. Mr. Baker was a railroad collecting legend and author, and Mrs. Baker was known as the “Queen of Glass”, having written a featured column for 19 years in a major antiques publication. The Baker Estate was selling the vase thru Rhoads (and Rhoads). Neither the heirs nor the regulars in attendance had any warning that this was going to be the high selling piece or that it would sell so highly. After the great vase crossed the block, there was applause throughout and tears among many of the interested parties that were involved with the estate and the auction. Romere Bearden $104,500 Sets Record at Ron Rhoads Auction!

Saturday, February 4th was an exciting and spectacular day for all who attended Ron Rhoads Antique Auction, held at the Kimberton Fairgrounds in Kimberton Pa. Customers were surrounded by incredible Gold Gilded Furniture, Marquetry Tables, Oriental Rugs, Indian Collection and fine Meissen. The major event of the day was Romare Beardens Life-size painting of ” Woman with Greens”. As the biding commenced on the Beardon, the atmosphere was filled with enormous expectation and excitement. After Careful research Ron Rhoads Auction Co. expected the high estimate of $50,000 would be met. Starting at 20,000 it steadily approached that figure, the stilled standing room only crowd was amazed after it passed $60,000. The final exhilarating competition for the painting was conducted on two phone lines between two eminent New York Galleries, with the Final hammer falling at $104,500 (which included the premium). The throng burst into applause, especially when Auctioneer Ron Rhoads announced the record setting price. The heat was turned on, as the prices that followed reflected: A Diminutive Ben Austrian produced a final price of $17,600.00 near record for the size, Ferranti Courting Scene $2,200, Chatrousse Joan of Arc Bronze $3,300, Guilded Collectors Cabinet $3,740, Pa. Chest on Frame $7,150, Montgomery County Grandfather Clock in Original Paint for $10,000, Ansonia Double Swinger $3,430, Marquetry Table $3,430, Meissen Grouping $3,850. The Fairgrounds that day was converted into a beautiful promenade of fine Art as all the merchandise was exquisitely displayed with great care.
