Lot 126 Edward Willis Redfield (American 1869-1965) "NEAR ST. NAZAIRE " oil on canvas signed and inscribed "E W Redfield So. France" lower left 14 x 18in. Known for his winter scenes of the Delaware River and as the founder of the New Hope School of painting, Edward Willis Redfield was born in Bridgeville, Delaware. He studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts from 1885 to 1889 and in Paris with William Bouguereau (1825-1905) and Tony Robert-Fleury (1837-1912). He exhibited at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia, the National Academy of Design in New York, the Paris Salon, the Newport (Rhode Island) Art Association and the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington D.C.. His work can be found in the Luxembourg Museum in Paris, the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, the Philadelphia Museum of Art and the Cincinnati Museum of Art. "Near St. Nazaire, France" was executed during Redfield's visit to France where he met and married Elise Devin Deligant, an inn-keeper's daughter from the village of Bois-le-Roi. This painting shows Redfield's earliest experimentation with companion and friend, Robert Henri.

Lot 127 Clyde Aspevig (American b.1951) "TOWERING HEIGHT" oil on canvas signed lower left "Aspevig" 50 x 30in. Provenance: Trailside Galleries 1992, Colorado Historic Society. Currently considered one of America's premier landscape painters, Clyde Aspevig was born on a small farm near Rudyard, Montana. He was a member of the Northwest Rendezvous Group from 1981 to 1987, where he won five of their merit awards. In 1990 he was awarded the highest prize given by the National Academy of western Art, the Frederic Remington Award. Aspevig is represented by Trailside Galleries in Scottsdale Arizona and Jackson, Wyoming where he has participated in six one-man showings from 1984 to 1993.

Lot 129 Emile Albert Gruppe (American 1876-1978) LANDSCAPE WITH LAKE oil on canvas signed lower left "Emile A Gruppe" 14 ¼ x 16in. Son of renowned painter Charles Gruppe, Emile Gruppe was born in Rochester New York . Along with his fathers influence Gruppe studied with George Bridgeman at the Carnegie Art School. The Art Students' League in Woodstock New York, with John F. Carlson, Provincetown, MA, Charles Hawthorne, Richard Miller, and George Chapman as well as the National Academy of design in New York City. Gruppe exhibited widely including the National Academy of Design (1916-1938), the Art Alliance of New York (1934-1946), and the Rockport (Maine) Art Association (1925-1946). His work is now in such important collections as the White House in Washington D.C., the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and the de Cordova Museum in Lincoln, Massachusetts. He is known for his impressionistic landscapes, and especially for his Gloucester and Rockport fishing boat scenes.

Lot 134 Walter Emerson Baum (American 1884-1986) "RIVER WITH BARN" oil on board signed "W E Baum" lower left 12 x 14in. Walter Emerson Baum began his art studies under the direction of William T. Trego and later under Daniel Garber and Thomas Eakin's teacher Thomas Anschutz at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. In 1921, Baum began teaching art, and founded the Baum School in Allentown. Baum also co-founded and supported the Lehigh Art Alliance in the 1930s. Baum was born in Sellersville Pennsylvania and was a life long resident of Bucks County, he holds the special distinction of serving as Director at the Allentown Museum of Art. He was art critic for the "Philadelphia Bulletin" where he wrote over 500 reviews. Baum was a member of the National Academy of Design in New York, the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, the Philadelphia Art Alliance and the Philadelphia Water Color Club. His work forms part of important collections such as the Pennsylvania Museum of Art, the Toledo (Ohio) Art Museum, the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and the Reading (Pennsylvania) Museum and Art Gallery

Lot 146 Americo Makk (American b.1927) "DOUBTFUL" oil on canvas signed "Americo Makk" lower left 25 x 19in. Provenance: Makk Galleries, Honolulu, Hawaii. Americo Makk was born in Gyor, Hungary, studied at the Hungarian National Academy of Arts in Budapest, followed by the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome. While in New York, Eva and Americo were awarded the prestigious American Ecclesiastical Award for their church murals in Dayton, Ohio and Cornwall, New York. The Makks have been sponsored by the United Nations and have exhibited at the Carnegie International Center by special invitation. They have exhibited in Europe, South Americo and throughout most of the United States. Four presidential portraits by America and Eva hang in the White House, including Americo's portrait of President Regan. The family has won over 100 gold medals, awards of merit and diplomas worldwide.
